If you are into music festivals, Muskegon has the "Summer Celebration" which runs in July that brings in several bands.

A few miles to the North you have Michigan Adventure Amusement park, and about 20 Miles North at the JJ Resort, there is a major music festival planned. I think its going to run in July and is suppose to be a several day event with 70 different bands.
This is the first year of this event but many people believe it will put this small community on the map. The festival is pretty close to Silver Lake Dunes which is enjoyed by many 4wheelers thru the summer and summer camping at the State Park.

You can camp at the JJ Resort, RVs or stay in their resort. Its a 4 day event.

If you are strictly going for a travel sight seeing, all of the locations mentioned by previous posters are wonderful areas to see.

I lived in Glen Arbor, Michigan for about 2 years, plus I used to visit there as a kid every summer, it's great there. Glen Arbor is in the center of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. You can canoe Crystal River, climb the dunes, spend the day at Lake Michigan and the beaches that line the shores, hike, camp, go to a casino, great food and shops, there's a resort called the Homestead, 30 minute drive to Traverse City, Vineyards in the Leelanau Pennisula, it's just a great place. You would like it if you are into those things.

1.I would say start out in Detroit - spend a day there.
2.Then, travel to Port Huron and spend a day - check out Lake Huron, and maybe even check out Canada from here.
3.From there, spend a day in Lexington - check out more of Lake Huron and the quaint little village shops.
4. Saginaw Bay and the tip of the thumb.
5.Next, check out Alpena and the NE Lower Peninsula
6. and 7. Spend a day (and a night) on Macinac Island
8. Sault St. Marie and Lake Superior and the St. Mary River
9. Marquette and Lake Superior
10. Pictured Rocks and other U.P. natural areas
11. Traverse City and the Grand Traverse Bay
12. Sleeping Bear Dunes - Lake Michigan
13. More of Lake Michigan, Grand Haven, Holland
14. Grand Rapids and maybe even Kalamzoo.
If you felt like only one day on Macinac Island, I would say start in Ann Arbor and make that day 1.

In the NOrthern Lower Peninsula:

Ocequoc Falls: The only really significant waterfalls in the Lower Peninsula. The falls only drops about 10 feet, maybe, but it had a strong water flow when I was there in June a few years back, and was an incredibly awesome swimming hole. Mostly locals were swimming, but a map savvy tourist can easily locate this beautiful spot near Rogers City and the Lake Huron shore. The waters were refreshing and felt just right on a hot, humid day. The tannin from the pine forests plus lack of pollution made this one awesome spot!!

Lake Huron Shore: These are some awesome beaches!! Two of the best are the state park near East Tawas, and the beach at the rest area on U.S. 23 near Alabaster. There was a good restaurant across 23 from the rest area, in 2005 at least.

Sinkhole Trails: Near Onaway, and not too far from Ocequoc Falls in the NE part of the lower peninsula. Lots of steps, but very dramatic just how deep these sinkholes are. Go and stretch those legs!!!

High Rollway Rest Area near Newaygo: This rest area on M-82 just East of Newaygo is really cool. The river runs through a deep gorge here, with nearly vertical walls. Lots of steps down to the river. This river is great for tubing, fishing, swimming, etc. In the town of Newaygo under the highway bridge is another good spot to access the river, but the banks are flat here.

All of these listed you will love. My personal faves are all in NW lower MI. Arcadia, Frankfort, Glen Arbor, Charlevoix, Petoskey are awesome! Dunes are great! Torch Lake is rated, I believe, in the 10 most beautiful lakes in the world. We would spend days at The Platte River inlet with the kids finding pretty rocks to make crafts and jewelry. TC is great, fun downtown. Go on a wine tour in the Leelanau Penninsula. Go to Leland to the fishing village. I second the Homestead Resort in Glen Arbor- it's very nice. If you like golf, check out the Eldorado in Cadillac. The Cadillac Grille restaurant at the course is good too. In TC some great places to eat would be Boone's Long Lake Inn, Mackinaw Brewing Co, Grand Traverse Brewing, and Travino's. If you get to the UP, go to Tequamenan Falls and Pictured Rocks for sure. If you go to GR, definately the Meijer Gardens. If you have kids, the GR Children's Museum is awesome. You won't be disappointed with Michigan, it is absolutely beautiful!

Trolls hate Bydand.

Not really "trolling", but it's a good point.

My family moved here to Michigan in December. We love exploring and seeing the beautiful sights. We had seen an advertisement for a train ride tour or something and i believe it had sights of the falls. So im assuming this is in the U.P. Does anyone know anything about such a thing?

Don't forget that Metro Detroit is not all that close to the UP. Even Mackinaw is pretty far from Detroit. I believe Detroit is closer to Pittsburgh than it is to Mackinaw City.
