I have some family needing to relocate to the muskegon area. They're hoping to find a town under 50K people that is safe, clean, and affordable. Do y'all know anywhere that fits this description, or close? Within an hour of muskegon.
Thanks.

Within an hour opens up a plethora of options. You could go as far north as Ludington and south of Holland. Immediately i'd suggest the urban cluster around Grand Haven. (ie G.Haven, Spring Lake, Ferrysburg and the townships) It would help to know what they are looking for in a community. Under 50k, does that mean urban area as a whole? Or would a suburb like Norton Shores be applicable? 25k people within a larger 150k urban area of Muskegon. What does affordable mean? ect...

Again without knowing specifics I would think Grand Haven would be the place to start. The surrounding cities have a little under 50k people total. Very quaint downtown with attractive development. Less than 15 minutes from downtown Muskegon and even closer to the areas primary shopping district. Good Schools and feels like a small town but with larger amenities. Also only 30 miles from the conveniences of Grand Rapids. Only caveat is traffic can be a monster, especially during the summer when seasonal residents are in town.

Thank you. They are looking for a smallish downtown with rural close-by. They are leaving some acreage, and are hoping for at least a few acres within biking distance (6ish miles) to downtown. Affordable can mean a lot of things, but where can one get the most bang for their buck? They are not super well off, so the less expensive, the better. They are accustomed to not being right up close to their neighbors, and would like enough space to bring a couple horses.

Grand Haven is a FANTASTIC town! It also has a state park within it's borders, right on the beach of Lake Michigan. Beautiful area, and house prices from very reasonable, to as much as you want to go. Very walkable, and acreage is available. Also close enough to Grand Rapids for high paying jobs.

That pic above expands if you click on it after it first comes up. You can look over the whole city.

You ain't lived until you walk out to that lighthouse, and have a Lake Michigan thunderstorm hit right then!
