So the wife and I put in an offer on a house this week, and we figure we will be moved in sometime in October. I was wondering since my drivers license expires August 2017 should I wait until it expires to change our address, or will I be good if I change it after we move?

Depends on if you think you'll have a car accident before next August. You are legally required to change your driver's license when you move. SOS - Driver's License Change of Address, Voter Registration

The issue will arise if you have your auto insurance at your old house, but you live in the new house - in the event of a car accident. The insurance company will go to your old house - find you not that - deny your claim and charge you with insurance fraud.
