By working class I mean just that, working class, blue collar, -and devoid of the impersonality and worse aspects of suburbia, more laid back.

Give me your nominations.

Place a tac on 95% of the Michigan map and you will enjoy what your looking for. I'm not sure how working class and blue collar equal laid back, and there are many blue collar subs around Detroit (warren, sterling heights, the list goes on) so perhaps you are looking for a "rural working class area"?

In saying that you could set up most anywhere in Mid-Michigan, many ultra conservative anti-progressive folks who love their "old" way of living and will vote down any developments that involve tax increses in force. You've picked the right state.

LOL

I like the "old way" of life more. Gentrification doesnt do anything for poor people but drive them out. Maybe that is what those people are trying to keep out of their communities. I know its a double-edge sword, too stagnant and communities dies, but then do they want to be driven out where they cant pay rents or afford houses anymore by gentifrication, and impersonal suburbia and big box stores?

I did mean rural....

Highland Park

The old way of life has driven Michigan into the worst recession.

By 2005, manufacturing’s share of the Michigan economy shrank from 38.6 percent to only 18.4 percent (even less now). I don't think you can find predominantly working class towns anywhere in MI. Confident, secure and laid back working class is not quite the same as the mix of serving, unemployed, deadbeat, and scared for its job classes. Are pet shiit scooper, burger flipping specialist, cashier and road kill control officer blue color working class? If they are blue color working class, few of them can afford to be laid back, confident and proud.

I thought it was US government sponsored global labor arbitrage which ended old way of post WWII life across entire country.

Yeah people here are probably right there is no good working class areas anymore in Michigan.

By the way I agree about the manufacturing base etc, being destroyed.

I just do not see more service places for the wealthy and condos being built and gentifrication either as the answer. There's only so many rich people that can afford that stuff.

Id rather be around other insecure people who relate to life on a tight budget to be frank then people who live the higher life, and act like these problems do not even exsist. Let's just say for some who are low enough on the scale there is socioeconomic discrimination, in other words you simply do not fit in.

. To be honest I agree with you, about the demise of stable employment for the working class and the overall destruction of the economy by the ripping away of our manufacturing base.

I know an "old way" of life is being destroyed but I do not think the "newer one" is any better. One of my friends told me rural America nationwide is going down by these things.

I would agree with that.

Globalism has been a FAILURE for AMERICA.

Those who want global power do not care about putting America first.

NAFTA was passed to "even" things out. We are just on the losing end. It will just get worse.
