I agree with TigerDan and WagonProject on Kazoo--definitely a college town with the nice addition of a lot of widespread community involvement from college and non-college related folks. I think its got its share of problems, but its a pretty cool mix overall. I disagree with the poster that said there is a bad town/gown relationship--quite the contrary, at least in the 20+ years I lived there.

I wouldn't consider Kazoo a college town. Sure it has student areas, but those are mainly confined to south of M-43, west of downtown, north of Whites Rd, and east of 9th Street. Outside of those areas, there are very few students. Also, the city doesn't feel like a college town. It's not like Ann Arbor or East Lansing. Outside of the immediate campus area, it's like any other large city in Michigan.

Berrien Springs gets a 0 when it comes to college towns. Andrews is the only thing here. We have two stop lights, a McDonalds and a Taco Bell/DairyQueen/Gas station combo. There are a couple of local restaurants but nothing to write home about. Unless you love Adventist potlucks and ridiculously boring winters, avoid Berrien like the plague.

I've lived in college towns - where the college really defines the culture. That's not really true there.
That's how I feel living here in Auburn Hills. We have one of the OCC campuses and the nearby Oakland University in Rochester Hills; but I don't really consider AH a college town by any stretch. I think that's because both OCC and OU are more suburban design rather than urban (if that makes sense).

The city did break ground on student housing in the downtown corridor (New Auburn Hills housing aimed at Oakland University, Cooley Law School grad students - theoaklandpress.com) so maybe Auburn Hills will grow from that.
