Helping a new college grad scope out apartments for a move to Lansing. Will be working in Lansing but needs affordable ($700ish) but decent 1 bedroom apt. Stadium District and Old Town look fun for young professionals but probably out of his price range. Would appreciate any specific suggestions of complexes to look at in person. Does not want to live in the undergrad student apartment scene but on the other hand doesn't want to be with all families either. Thanks for any help.

The Oaks Apartments | Apartments in East Lansing, MI I lived here AWHILE ago. It's directly west of MSU and an easy commute to downtown Lansing. It was a nice place with less of an undergrad vibe (quieter, cleaner), but still all students I imagine. That was a long time ago, but it's the first thing that comes to mind. Looks like the prices are based on multiple people, but maybe there's a single option that would still fit the budget if there are vacancies.

Does this new college grad want to be a specific location where the action is happening, or is he willing to drive? There are a few complexes in the Saginaw/Canal Road area that would meet the price range and environment criteria, but he's going to need a car and commute. This person could also find somebody in the Stadium District/Old Town/Prudden Place type places that are looking for roommates if he's more interested in that. I also wouldn't completely rule out Old Town - while the newly constructed places may be out of his price range, I've occasionally browsed Craiglist in that area and found that sometimes there are houses converted to a few studio apartments that would definitely be in his price range.

He has a car, is willing to drive 5-8 miles to work. Definitely does not want a roommate after 4 years in college. The Oaks website looks like it caters to MSU undergrads and the apts are priced for multiples but thanks anyway. He's been looking at places on line but was just looking for anyone's recommendations/suggestions from personal experience. People have told him to steer clear of the area south of Lansing due to undergrad focused complexes and crime. He is planning to take a look at Capital Commons along with Ramblewood and Plumtree on the west side and not sure where else yet.

Thanks for the replies.
