In general, the property values near the school will probably be fairly stable since there will always be demand to live in that area no matter what happens to the economy. The same can be said for some of the areas around the capitol near downtown. However, buying anywhere else is probably NOT a good short to mid term investment. The real estate market has not even fully felt the results of recent and ongoing job cuts in the state as quite a few of those people will soon probably be leaving to find jobs elsewhere. Then the indirect effects of the money that those people would be spending suddenly leaving local economies... the real estate market will probably get much worse before it gets better.

I am a 53 year old single woman and I have lived downtown Lansing for a year now and love it. Not one single problem with crime, noise, bad elements period! Lansing is not the city it used to be years ago. It's attractive and upscale now. The weekends are quiet and relaxing. SO to you who say stay away you are oh so wrong. Loving Lansing!
