Its been over 23 years but we close on a house in Levering on Monday. I've traveled all over the world and never imagined that Michigan would be on the list again to be "home". I'm not looking forward to the 1,450 mile journey from Houston but I am looking forward to being back in Michigan.

Houston to Levering......That's a bit of a switch. Best wishes on the move.

You know you're in the boonies when the google car hasn't rolled through in 9 years

The only reason I even know about Levering is that Levering Road ends in Cross Village. Maybe that's what the OP is hoping for, seclusion. Do they still have BlissFest out there?

You are moving to a beautiful place! I would take Levering over Houston any day. But yes, that is a drastic change indeed.

I'm more than a little worried about the snow. First purchase will be a good walk behind snow blower. We need clothing. boots gloves, scarves...the works. Best thing about the move is that I'll have family close so holidays will be fun. Our property has deeded access to Munro Lake & Douglas Lake is close by too so fishing is in our future!. Biggest concern is what to do with ourselves for the winter. Is cross country ski-ing still popular. Trying to think of fun things that wont break the bank.

There are all kinds of cross country trails up this way. Our thing is snowmobiling, and when snow hits..the snowmobilers take over up here. Its really a great way to see the area from a different view. Its also nice to be close to the Great Lakes and travel to see them in Winter, truely beautiful! MAny people move up this way and just sit inside all Winter and complain. The ONLY way to get through is to embrace it and get out in it. Winter in Northern Michigan absolutely amazing if you have the right attitude.

A big change for sure! I grew up in MI, but I still had to Google Levering to see where it is. Congratulations on your move. What made you decide to go back?

We will be retiring in the Newaygo Area close to Hardy and Croton Ponds. We are also leaving Texas (DFW metro area) after having spent the past 32 years in the south for my wife (She is from Michigan) and my entire 53 years of living in the south. The Texas summers are just to darn hot for us anymore. We already have our house and property paid for and will be heading up there full time and retired in about 4 years. Can't wait to get there. Enjoy, I am jealous
