I was just curious about what areas within Lansing are interesting places to live, because there are fun things to do, local shops and cafes, and overall character. Of course, it would be good not to have excessive amounts of crime for the city (I know that crime is going to be relatively high, and I'm okay as long as its around average for the city.)

A couple of areas I'm thinking about are either Old Town, or the Westside Neighborhood west of the Capitol and close to Sexton High School. What do you think about these places? Any other areas that you could recommend that would fit the vibe?

Default Lansing's Eastside

I highly suggest Lansing's Eastside, which is a nice mix of all ages of people and people of many different backgrounds. I read somewhere that it is the most diverse neighborhood in the country! So, there are some ethnic restaurants and small grocery stores. There's also a nice vibe-- people do lots of gardening in their small city lots, lots of people using bicycles as transportation, and general friendliness. It's close to several bus lines and is within walking distance to some restaurants and bars.

Moore's River Drive area along The Grand River is also very nice.

Moores River Drive is clean and affluent, but definitely not vibrant. No cafes, shops, attractions. Just residential.

Old Town Lansing is your best bet for vibrancy. Free summer festivals, restaurants, cafes, bars, clubs, and the River Trail within the immediate area.
