Family of 5 looking to move into this area. We love Kalamazoo, but can't find a house in a decent area in our price range. Anyone have any input to share about Marshall, Battle Creek or Paw Paw? Much appreciated!

I haven't lived in the area for a long time so take it with a grain of salt, but Marshall seems like a nice town. I grew up in its bad news neighbor town Albion.

I lived in Battle Creek btw 1993 and 2004. It was fine then, there were some problem areas sure but generally seemed pretty sound. I've heard its gone downhill some. But I think if you live in Lakeview or Harper Woods? you should probably be fine.

Know nothing about Paw Paw sorry. It would be cool to be closer to Lake Michigan in the summer. You might have more lake effect snow.

I will toss in another option...Three Rivers. It's about 30-35 minutes south of Kalamazoo. I have a nephew who's lived there for many years. He and his wife raised their daughter there. She is now studying Forensic Science at West Virginia.

Battle Creek is run-down and tapped out. You can get a lot of house for your money, but look at the school ratings...they're crap. BC is a shell of what it used to be. You don't want to move your kids there. We're a family of 6 and we rented for the last year and a half in Delton (north of K'zoo...don't live there unless you're related to someone...look up "inbred hick-town" and a picture of Delton comes up) and looked for a town to buy in. We shied away from Battle Creek.

Look at Allegan, Otsego, Plainwell? Wayland is nice, and a straight shot up 131, but may be too much drive. Hastings is nice, but same thing about the drive.
