I moved to Michigan to be closer to my girlfriend's family, my girlfriend and I are trying to find an affordable area but safe. Just need a 1-2 bedroom apartment. I'm looking for a manufacturing career. Don't want too crazy of a commute/less traffic preferred. We're in our younger 20s. Amenities are nice. Been looking from Troy area to St Claire. So any advice/info would be nice!

I'd suggest searching Craigslist, rent.com & similar, etc. for the areas you're interested in and see what meets your budget + is acceptable to you (size, proximity to freeway, amenities, does on-site laundry or off-street parking matter to you, how run-down are you willing to accept, etc.).

Madison Heights is where you want to look. It is next to Troy, affordable, good freeway access, and near bar hopping suburbs like Royal Oak and Berkley. Madison Heights has plenty of large apartment complexes on John R and Dequindre Roads. It is not an upscale community by any means, but it is safe and affordable.

at $850/month, Troy might be out of your budget. But look for neighboring cities like Madison Heights, Warren, Rosevile, Oak Park, Hazel Park. Look for job first and then you can figure out which direction you want to live in (south or East or West). But with in 10 min drive of Troy, you have plenty of options. You might be able to find a small apart in south Troy for 850 but your money will give you more space and amenities in the other cities.
