Would I be nuts to consider moving to the Gull Lake area while working just north of downtown GR (near Comstock Park)?

Ofcoarse not. many people do just that. US 131 is a busy route between Kazoo and Grand Rapids, with comuters. They have at almost every exit a parking lot for ride sharing folks.

Would I be looking at about 1/2 hour each way?

Depends on where you are at on Gull lake. Getting to 131 is the most time spent. After that, considering rush hour, 30 mins. is about what it will take. Total, look to more like an hour. Someone who is doing this now or has done it from the Gull could have a better informed answer. The traffic on 131 moves along fast...untill you get to the south side of GR...rush hour can be a hastle at times.

No, of course you wouldn't be nuts. As long as it's not snowing and 131 isn't torn up, it should be no more than 30 minutes.

I don't know how you could do it in 30 min. My experience (though not in a daily working scenario) would be a minimum of 45 min., or more. Getting to 131 via D ave. will take time depending on where in Richland area you are living. Also, you are going North of downtown, so you will have rush hours and the "S" curves to contend with. Add any kind of inclement weather & you could be facing an hour commute.

I have seen the northbound back up coming from the east on Ave. D many times when I went to GR to shop. I fortunately was coming from the west, not so bad.
