I wonder why that is. Why do people leave one place and then complain the new place isn't just like where they left?

I've seen that in the work place also, someone new on the job, maybe their second day starts telling everyone "Well, the way WE did it at the last place I worked......"

Small towns have their own reasons for being. If someone doesn't like a certain crowded bar or restaurant, they can go find another -- why impose one person's way of thinking onto all the rest? If those people at for example Timber Lanes are enjoying themselves, are happy going about their life, why would someone from elsewhere want to take it all away from them? If they wanted to live like Gross Pointe, then I'm sure they'd be moving there.

I just may be one of them

What highway is it that connects Cadillac and TC? Is that 39?

Anyway..didn't there use to be a farm South of TC that had some Buffalo?
I remember seeing them back in the 60's.

So.. let me ask those from TC a question...............

In 2004 & 2006 I flew back to Ohio from Ca. , rented a car in Columbus and drove up through Mi, making stops on both sides of the state to vist friends and relatives, {Monroe, Sterling Heights, Roseville and Chesterfield.} My main stop was my home town Cadillac. Then from there I drove up through TC and up to Cheboygen & Mackinaw City.

I'm sorry........my question is...In 2006 when I drove into Cadillac I passed some "Amish" just on the outskirts. I was surprised.
I have nothing against them,I was just curious to know, have the Amish Families added to the population in TC?
I live in Kalkaska. In my travels throughout the surrounding areas I have found that there are many pockets of Amish in this area. I have yet to see any Mennonite.

From Cadillac you can take 131 to 113 to 611 or 115 to 37/31...both will get you to Traverse.

That farm is still there. It's just a few miles south of the intersection of South Airport Rd. and 31 (look to the east) on the way to Chums Corner.

I just remembered, I did see Amish in Traverse City, they were selling baked goods outside the Walmart, but there are also Mennonites in that area. There are both.

I think the closest Amish to TC live in the NE side of Cadillac, but yeah, there are a fair number of Mennonites.

The buffalo belong to Olesons, the grocery store people, who also supply all the food for the NMC BBQ which I think is coming up next Sun. I don't know if it's still the case, but I think it used to be the largest herd east of the Mississippi.

Because you are acting under the assumption that changing TC to emulate Grosse Pointe or Ann Arbor is an improvement and that those changes would improve the quality of life. Improvement is a subjective term. If the quality of life is so superior in Ann Arbor or Grosse Pointe then why don't you simply move there? Then you would not have to endure rubbing shoulders with the uninformed, provincial rubes who don't seem to share your level of sophistication.

Bingo! "Improvement" is in the eye of the beholder. Someone's idea of "progress" might be my "regress" when it comes to standard of living and/or quality of life. I'm certainly spoiled as to modern conveniences but once in a while I look at the Amish way and wonder if there are some ideals there in which to draw from.

The citizens of Grand Traverse County deserve better than what they have. If you don't think so, you are part of the problem

I second that - particularly when it comes to snow removal.
