The number of annual deaths in the country for drug overdoes is predicted at 69K. If the numbers were originally presented at 60K, we would not have done this. Or in Michigan's case, we have a Governor that wants to double down on stupid because she craves the power and think that it might get her a VP nomination if she can be the most autocratic governor in the country.
Lol. If we’re lucky it will “never materialize” to the projections that were based on not taking the actions we have.

How about that “mass hysteria” in Italy and Spain, eh? Lol again. Italy has 24,000 deaths with less than 1/5 the US population ... mass hysteria killed ‘em huh

Yes, lung cancer, alcohol, car accidents, other flus kill tens of thousands annually. And then along comes a brand spanking new factor to add not only its own mortality - but crash the system that deals with all other health crises.

Brilliant.

Italy had a very old population and a large number of Chinese textile workers who presumably were the source of the infection. The large number of deaths were because China was not being honest with the rest of the world and the countries infected the earliest did not know what was going on. The reaction to it was still hysterical though. The numbers do not merit the response. We're also getting inflated numbers because if you have the virus and died, you were counted as having been killed by the virus which is not always the case. That's especially true in this country where the government is funding hospitals at a much larger rate for COVID-19 care.

We don't shutdown the country for other things with a similar death toll. And those early death projections had the social distancing stuff built into the models. The whole point of doing this crap was to "flatten the curve" so that hospitals would not get overwhelmed with everybody getting sick at the same time. It wasn't supposed to prevent infection but to control the rate. The projections were so far off that the reason to do this in the first place is negated. We're killing this country for no reason now. Well, there's a reason but it's a political one.

The age of Italy’s population, and number of Chinese textile workers has nothing to do with your theory on the function of hysteria. And those factors aren’t equally present in other hard hit hot spots: Spain, NYC, NJ, Michigan, etc.

And no, the numbers are NOT “inflated”. They are understated. Just starting to be adjusted upwards, appropriately.

“We don't shutdown the country for other things with a similar death toll. “ ... heh, like lung cancer, alcohol-related deaths, heart disease, auto accidents? None of which are contagious ...

There have been a slew of projections. Early ones did not account for social distancing. Quickly, other models were created to estimate the effects of distancing and shut downs. The effectiveness is simply not arguable ... it’s blatant, in our faces.

Yes, it sure was.

Evidently, my entire family tree in Michigan has clean garages. Every closet is organized. And, it has become clear that fine wine is still very much available.
Yep, liquor stores are open for business, thankfully.

My wife told me the garden supplies at Meijer were available this AM, too. <shrug>

My wife and I are lucky enough to both work from home regardless of the shelter in place order. I feel really badly for all the service industry folks that are out of work. They're the ones most likely to be living paycheck to paycheck, as well. I'm pretty sure everyone is looking to loosen the reigns as soon as it's safe to do so. The current state of affairs isn't good for anyone in MI, to include those in the state government.

I painted the hallway this afternoon - now it's time for a cocktail.

Hopefully your mom can see her great grandchild again soon - my folks are in the same boat. I have a 4 month old great niece that no one can visit.

The numbers are interesting. Ohio: 11 million people, 632 Ish death from covid. Indiana 5.1 or so million people. 639 ish deaths. Michigan 9.8 million people (or is it 8.9 2094 covid deaths.

Ohio has a much more sensible and less onerous lock-down than Michigan, but they started earlier. Indiana started at the same time, slightly less draconian rules.

Sweden by the way - 10 million people, 1300 Covid deaths.

Crazy how different everything is. You would think either the reporting is being fudged one way or the other, or some other factor must be in play.

As far as I can tell, Michigan and Pennsylvania are completion for the most draconian lock down rules although I think Michigan takes the cake for the most nonsense. The majority of other states allow social gatherings of less than 10 people (one says 9, another 3, but all but a few allow small gatherings). do not restrict things like fishing or what you can buy in a store and allow construction to continue (among other things). Even California is less intrusive in their lockdown rules.

I think Whitmer is shooting herself in the head politically with this nonsense. The mostly republican legislature is being strangely quiet which is smart. She is pissing everyone off with them needing to point out how absurd her "guidelines" are and they avoid any risk by saying nothing.

Where she really did herself in was banning the cocktail of drugs that seems to help people get over this. I am nto sure whether she back off that or the hospitals just chose to ignore her orders and threats, but Henry Ford has used it with success.

More and more townships and other municipalities are sort of rebelling and telling people to ignore portions of Whitmer's guidelines. Without the backing of municipal law enforcement, she has no power to enforce her rules and they are making that abundantly clear.

According to City-Data's COVID-19 info page, Michigan's curve HAS been flattening, unlike some other states that have had upward spikes. Scroll down and look at the graph entitled , Coronavirus cases per 100k residents, by state: Apr 16, 2020 -- that is a flattening curve. Scroll back up and look at the first item: Coronavirus cases per state animation: (updated Apr 17, 2020) shows that MI has fallen from 3rd into 4th place for number of cases, and is very close to falling to 5th.

We were getting good results, but who knows what will happen now with these people congregating on the Capitol grounds, possibly swapping germs with asymptomatic people, and then going home to their communities, stopping to gas up and leave germs on the pump handle on the way.

All those Trump banners, Confederate flags, even Kek flags -- that shows who these people really are and what their true agenda is. Protesting the executive order is just a pretext.

Some polling to clarify how much - er, rather, how little, support there is for this “Liberate Michigan” movement:
Quote:
Fox News’s coverage might give you the idea that these protesters represent the views of a significant chunk of people in their states. But polling indicates that’s not the case. For instance, a YouGov/Economist poll released Wednesday found that 61 percent of Americans think Trump should institute a nationwide stay-at-home order, compared to just 22 percent who are opposed. Along the same lines, polling from the Pew Research Central released on Thursday showed that 66 percent of people are concerned their state governments will relax social distancing restrictions too soon, compared to just 32 percent who are worried they won’t move quickly enough.

If you mean God-fearing, gun toting, freedom-loving Americans then I'm with you but no -- you have to insinuate racism. It's the go-to tool of the liberal mind. Those protesters were just horrible asserting their first amendment rights of freedom of speech and assembly. Or (oh no), they asserted their 2nd amendment rights too. With what authority is Governor Whitmer using to suspend the Constitution?

Those dirty Republicans and their germs. They might have touched something. Do you hear yourselves?

And again, the loss of your basic freedoms has no correlation with how well the state is doing in preventing the virus spread. It's just the excuse to make it happen. The end goal for liberals is always more government, less freedom, and higher taxes to feed the government growth.
