I love the trees in Michigan. It's my favorite thing about this gorgeous state.

I notice that whenever I fly into Grand Rapids. It looks like hobbit-land down below with all the trees stretching for miles on end.

Here are some from Mackinaw Island this past weekend. A bit overcast, but the weather was actually perfect (not too hot). For those who have never been, cars are not allowed to be driven on the roads, ever. Only emergency vehicles.

Michilimackinac - "Land of the Great Turtle" sculpture at the French Outpost just outside the grounds of the Grand Hotel.

Looking up the beautiful "Lilac Lane" toward the Grand Hotel (Mackinaw Island has a certain "Savannah Georgia" feel to it. Very bizarre.

Little Stone Church:

The Rolls Royce of carriage rides:

The economy version. The home on the bluff in the background is the State of Michigan's Governors "Cottage":

The magnificent Grand Hotel, with the largest covered veranda in the world. It does cost you $15/person just to go up and walk through the hotel. In the evening, men are required to wear jacket & tie and women are required to wear pant suits or dresses.

The grounds of the hotel:

The carriage tours are a pretty good way to see the island:

Arch Rock in the State Park:

You can also bike all the way around the island:

More boats with visitors arriving en masse:

Just because there are no cars does NOT mean there is no gridlock, especially downtown:

Enjoy!

I've been over the bridge so many times but have yet to have an oppertunity to make a visit to the island. Hopefully someday.

Those are really great pics too.

Me too. I live in a city with lots of old oaks. I love the trees. My husband thinks I'm nuts because sometimes, at the end of a long day, I'll pull up in the drive and just watch the wind rustle the leaves in the trees in our backyard. It's calming.

Here's one: fleeting sunset, crescent moon and "rockets red glare" over Torch Lake:

Thanks! Actually, you can see the moon in both pictures (the top one had a longer exposure, so you can actually see the entire moon with the crescent portion reflecting the sun's light toward the bottom right).
