Sure there's punk kids everywhere and it's not like we're talking inner city gangs here. But for a few things to happen in a big city, okay, I expect that. But Sawyer is NOT a big city. It's a small community and therefore when you hear all these stories happening there, there's a higher percentage of troublemakers out there than elsewhere. In my opinion, it truly is "the hood" of the U.P.

I lived there for a year between 2001-02 as I finished college. That was probably the last of the decent years, but we had our problems. One night eight garages got broken in to, ours included. Though nothing was taken, we did have some damaged items. My roommate's friend had his van stolen. Police ended up finding it out by US-41 with the windows smashed, but nothing taken. Sounds like some kids took it for a joy ride. My neighbor's kid liked to play his guitar full blast at midnight and 6 a.m. on a weekday. We could hear it loud and clear through the walls. Where were the parents to tell him it's not an appropriate time to be doing that? Sleeping? Watching TV? Wherever they were, they weren't doing their job as parents. I've had to deal with some of this first hand.

Then a few years ago some kids set an arson fire at the local school. The kids smashed like a hundred windows at the vacant townhouses one night the other year. And the list goes on and on...and I haven't even mentioned drugs yet. I live in Marquette now and like any college town we have your usual stuff, but when's the last time you heard of a hundred windows being smashed in town? Never.

You see 12 year old kids wandering the streets at midnight. You think they're out doing good deeds at that time? Not all, but a lot of parents there don't parent. Just because you're low income doesn't mean you have to act like trailer trash. It doesn't mean you don't have to watch your kids, clean your yard, or whatever. Again, not all, but many parents there choose to be that way and it shows and reflects poorly on the community. I feel bad for the decent folks who are trying to make a living there.

Bored kids + Lack of parenting + No useful outlets to release energy (i.e. sports) = Recipe for destruction. And with the school year ending in a few months, I'm sure we'll hear more lovely stories out of Sawyer soon enough.

I grew up on K.I. Sawyer AFB from 1970 - 1981. By the way you people talk, it might be worth coming home once in awhile. What do you mean no gas at the shoppette or anywhere on base. You mean to tell me noone bought the rights to any of the fuel depots there? I was just 12 when my father retired and moved back to the N.E. area. I would like to find anyone who grew up there in that decade and attended the Gwinn schools,or the Leo P. Macdonald elementeary. Is the elementary school still there just outside the fence? So if you know or you are someone from that time frame please contact me with "SAWYER" in the message.

Coltzilla44 You've got it right! There are a bunch of low life slumlords working the old base. Courtyard apts is another one of those fine SCUMLORDS! They do nothing about any problem with your home. They let trash build up all around the property, old cars, sofas, chairs and the endless amount of broken beer bottles lay everywhere. But after further investigating. They have more junk than everyone else piled up in their backyard which ooozes onto county property. I seen 3 broken down trucks. An old fidge, washing machine and pile opon piles of construction garbage laying all over.. Nice roll models there.

Yes. Courtyard Apts. Top of the heap for SLUMLORDS... Plus. They are both professional DRUNKS!

Jeff and Doneen Ferris are the perfect example of classic slumlords. They extort money off the homeowners they represent and do major upgrades to their home, while letting their units go to hell. Trying to get a hold of anyone after hours for an emergency is impossible. Sometime you might get a call 3 or 4 days later with a promise to fix the problem and nothing happens. These 2 are DRUNKS! Plain and simple. They rent to lowlife, system sucking drug dealers, who have been kicked out of every other rental companies units and when someone complains, they escalate the situation with lies to where theres retaliation, creating a atmosphere of tension while they sit in their house and get drunk and critisis everyone else.

Yes, They are one of the main example of why K.I has such a bad reputation.
