For whatever it's worth, I think there is a major shift happening within the African American community.

In the spotlight, I think it started with Cosby and has been taken up by Obama. I think the era of victimhood espoused by the likes of Jesse Jackson is fading.

While I'm not black, I used to work in a situation where black people were doing truly heroic, death-defying acts to improve their neighborhoods, while others were doing what you describe above. There was a tension between the two sides and I think the good side is finally winning.

I realized then that there is a deeper problem that no government funding can fix and it has to change from within, no matter what horrific acts were done by others to create the problem. Humans have been in situations like that throughout history and they've always had to right the listing ship on their own. I think the shift has begun.

I don't know of anything for rent, though. Sorry.

Transfer to Grand Valley State and move to Grand Rapids.

The west side is the best!

The poster didn't say what school they're attending, but I doubt they'd be in Southfield if GVSU was on their list of schools. :-)

They're within shouting distance of Wayne State, UofM and UofD right there (others too I'm sure)

I don't live in Southfield, but been there enough to know what you are talking about. There are nice areas in Southfield, you just picked a bad one. I would recommend looking in the classifieds for homes to rent, go see them and also drive by them at night before signing.

I realized you posted out of frustration but the ranting was unnecessary... I am nothing like you explained but I hate when people generalize black people. Especially when black people generalize black people. You should know better.

Default hang in there my friend! help is on the way!

try this site: Free Online Apartment Advertising - RentLinx

or this one: detroit metro housing classifieds - craigslist

or this: Michigan Rental Homes, Houses for Rent in MI, Michigan Home Rentals

or this: Detroit Home Rentals, Homes for Rent in Detroit MI, Apartments, Houses for Rent, and Rental Homes in Detroit, Michigan

or even this: Apartments in Detroit Area, Michigan Apartments for rent Detroit Area apartment rentals, Detroit Area furnished apartments to rent Detroit Area roommates rooms for rent Detroit Area sublets temporary short term rentals.

and don't forget this: Rental Homes Detroit | Homes For Rent Detroit, Michigan | Home Rental | Houses for Rent Detroit

There are nice, quiet neighborhoods all around the area, but you do have to snoop around a little to find them. Pontiac, especially Indian Village and the north side of town, is nice and quiet and pretty affordable. Royal Oak costs a heart and a kidney, but there are affordable places in Farmington Hills, Milford, Novi...

Would you agree with me that black single parent household (with multiple kids from different fathers) can be a source of terror for any community? So, that is the reason why I am mad, This has nothing to do with self hating, it is just a fact. It is time for BLACKS to be responsible and stop playing the victim card.....Jesse Jackson and Al sharpton ran that game for so long--by the way, do you know where Jesse and Cie live? Upscale suburb of Chicago. So don't pull that Black this and that.......By the way I am an MBA student. Don't blame my education level or accuse me of trying to be white.....Good day

You will LOVE Novi! Wonderful hometown values, great neighbors, nice places to shop and eat. I'm in Texas now but lived in Novi for years - I miss it still (as well as Michigan). Good luck with your MBA program.
