I agree with "edgey" my home is 118 years and is located just south of Carriage Town my Father grew up in this house and lives next door in a home that is 130 years old. he has lived in various houses in this same neighborhood for 60 years, he's been in the house next door for 30 years, when he retired, him and my step-mom purchased a home in Frankenmuth they kept the house in Flint as they still had a rental business going here in the reniassance zone. They were out there a year and came back due to "homesickness" They are selling there house in Frankenmuth, it's a beautiful town but not for them, They are glad to be back. Our homes are very sturdy, of course I know the history of the add on to my home and several updates or renovations. I love my hometown and I'm going to stay.
We are located between Kearsley and W. Second St. we have no problems, my dad tells me he was broke into soon after purchasing his home and hasn't had a problem since, but we do have great lighting, fencing and ADT monitering.

You'll love Flint, despite the bad press it has great areas and yes, you can move your business here and save. Be sure to check out the tax incentives for renaissance zones, you can't beat them. There are certain areas you should avoid, just like any big city.

This thread is five months old, neil. I think the OP stopped checking for answers a long time ago.

Carriage Town has been plagued with arsons recently, the police and fire departments have been gutted and can't respond to calls, and tax incentives are really not a motivator when people refuse to come to the city because the crime and blight is at third world levels.
