Ah. I tend to agree. You can't really paint Michigan as "one" picture. The economies, geography and even weather are very different from one end to another. I mean, it's almost 100,000 square miles for Chrise sake. The distance from the Michigan border to New York City is less than that same spot to Ironwood, MI, the furthest Western part of the U.P.

That was kind of the point of my earlier post.

Upstate NY is much like Michigan for hills, lakes and land.

I hear CT is beautifully full of trees and from pictures so is New Hampshire.

So where do or have these people lived that they think Michigan is more beautiful than any other?
It all depends. Michigan is about the most beautiful if you're judging beauty by white-barked birch trees standing out in a deep green woods, rolling hills, lakes and rivers and streams, beaches with very large woods, lots of green or lots of snow in the winter, color in the fall.

New Mexico is very beautiful if you're idea of beauty is wide open deserts and mountain ranges, pine forests and crisp clear mountain air, turquoise skies.

Missouri is most beautiful if you're looking for green mountains, quiet mountain mornings in the Ozarks. Oak trees and rolling green hills and more miles between towns.

I'll take the second one please!

I lived in Pa for alot of years.... dont miss it.
Live in Missouri now...not for me
Moving to Michigan...regardless of the negatives. you have them everywhere. I could tell you the same things about Pa. and Mo. Like i say all the time, they are only one persons opinions. Its amazing how the negativity over powers the positives. And alot feed on those negatives and just keep them rolling. Lets take jobs for example, i hear alot of people saying they moved to mi. and cant find jobs. Wouldnt you think to research all possible avenues before hand? Again, just my opinion.

I agree. It is crazy, though, how the people in MI seem to constantly bicker with each other about whose quadrant of MI is soooo much better than the other's. I just think everyone should realize that MI is their state and whether you are N, S, E, or W, you are ultimately one. There are some parts of MI I like and some I don't. Yet, I still remain a Michigander and hope all parts would get it together for the better of the state as a whole.

Unfortunately, my husband was just transferred to NV for a year so I am out here for now. I miss a lot of things about MI, but I am coping in NV and will make the best of it. My heart will always be in MI. I would love to see MI do a 360-and soon!

Same for me. I like the idea of changing seasons in 2-3 hours simply by driving up into the mountains or down them. You can ski all day on beautiful mountain slopes, enjoy the smell of pine trees and forests and then drive back down to 60-70 degrees.

Or you can decide you want a break from the warm summer days and in 1 and half hours be hiking with a sweater up in the forests.

No place is perfect though -- you can miss the rivers and Great Lakes at times.

I'm not like that. I think about the every day going to work, running errands, going to lunch, going out in the evening, golfing, etc.. I can't stand getting in a hot car in business clothes. Plus, I run outside and it's pretty brutal if it's hotter than 75 degrees. Sunny all day every day, yuck! It gets oppressive after a while. Just ask my lawn.

Already this August is running a bit too hot, too dry and a bit too sunny for my liking. My lawn looks like crap and I can't keep enough water on it.

But I understand some people like A LOT of sun. Some don't.

But kimba01, I think you have it all wrong. It's not that people think their part of Michigan is better than any other. It's when people start bashing Michigan with one broad stroke that others get defensive. It just seems like people in Western Michigan have more pride in the State than the Southeast side. Plus, if you hang out here at C-D long enough, you will read some absolutely ludicrous statements made about Michigan.

True, I have read many stupid statements about MI and other states too. Nature of a public forum, I suppose. My point is that there are a few here that repeatedly put down people and their opinions about a different area of the same state. And I mean with a vengeance. It is embarrassing. That was all I meant. It is obvious that certain parts are not going to work for everyone, but it is still all MI.

One poster in particular will constantly rave about their area and tell people they need to come there and then bash the fact that so many actually come there. ???
Then, if someone is talking about their little area and what they like and dislike, they will come on and bash their opinion, rudely, and then insert all the reasons "their area" is so much better. I just think it is so rude. Give your opinion and let it go, do not dog others likes and dislikes. If I do not like winter sports, then so what? It makes it tough for me in a winter state, but that is my deal.

Ok, whatever, sorry for the rant...I get what you are saying.
