That is absurd. Why would michgian, one of the ten largest states (I think) and hte neediest state get only 1%? We should be getting close to $100 billion of the stimulus money. Getting 1% means that we will pay far more that what goes to Michigan. Once agin we get to donate funds for other states.

Do you get the proportion of that huge "stimulus" that you will have to pay back eventually? Isn't it simply more debt? Certainly we know someone's got to pay it back at some point.

That's why this "bailout" is a JOKE.

It all comes from the same kitty, like collective bargaining or something...

It all comes down to this:

People need to live within their means more. Quit spending money on frivolous things (like those blu-ray DVDs and video games that were mentioned), quit going to movies, spend less money, there will be less tax dollars coming in, and the message will be sent.

It seems everyone has to have the latest gadgets, the latest cellphone, the newest video game system, DirecTV with HD, a DVR and all the Movie channels, their kids have to have designer clothes, the newest toys, brand new computers with Wi-Fi internets, etc...

It's our own damn fault that this has happened...we've made our bed, now we need to lie in it.

Shop at ALDI's, go fishing, play board games, go for a walk, read a book, have a CONVERSATION...there are millions of things to do without spending a single dollar...

And that will be the only way the message will be sent...

I mean...if there's no money, it had to have went SOMEWHERE.

People gave it up.

And Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo are all doing fine.

I called a United Building center I used to work with, and asked how things were going. Dave the salesman I know said that they had cut jobs from 35 to 12, just enough to keep the doors open. He said that there is nothing going on. My friend said she is taking 10,000 and buying a 3 bed. home to rent out. This is in an area that you could not touch a home that needed renovation for less than 100,000 5 years ago. For those who say this is not as bad as the 70s recession I lived through that one, and this is way worse than that recession. I think the only reason that the unemployment is not showing as bad is becaue of all the flight out of state and people who have fallen off the rolls.

It did go to some ultra greedy types, but where was/is all that money?

Much of the so-called "wealth" only existed as the possibility of people paying their mortgages, their credit card debts, and so on.

Builders were building entire subdivisions practically overnight, most with ultra cheap illegal labor many of which sent billions of dollars out of the USA for relatives back home to spend on whatever.

Home-buyers were getting subprime loans with no money down, and interest only payments but a little clause that promised them that interest would rise but they gleefully chose to ignore that part of the deal because a showplace home would impress their friends.

Houses were way overbuilt. Oversaturated the market so of course many sit empty and decaying. They were very poorly constructed and won't be worth what it costs to repair them in another few years. And of course the buyers were never able to afford them, are walking away from debt that will burden them forever.

So the money went "poof", it really never existed. It was just the promise of future payments.

All of the above may be true, but it is to late to worry about it now. It is like saying who should have zigged and who should have zagged after a car accident. All we can do now is try to go forward from here.
