Well here I go again with my bad news but this makes me angry...

http://www.milmi.org/admin/uploadedP...0_warn2008.htm

This is the information the media doesn't want you to see, 48,326 jobs lost by layoff or closure of a workplace since 2004. The news of job losses isn't new, but the mindframe of this sate, in saying that 60 jobs here or 200 there is progress......is simply disgusting.

That's not every lay-off either. The place I worked layed off 24 peeps this year and they are not on that list.

I like this one:
GM - Flint Assembly PlantFlint4/28/2008Mass Layoff0

If it's 0 why is it even listed?

BTW, the place I worked got a huge tax abatement ($24M I think) and a $500,000 grant from the state, claiming it plans to add 26 jobs. It was in the paper and on Mlive on 7/1, funny how the lay-offs were never published though. The Granholm Administration must have mistaken the word eliminate for create.

Makes me wonder how many of these "New Job Announcements" actually materialize.

And it's about to get worse with the bail out failing. I know I took enough of a loss yesterday that all discretioinay spending just got cut indefintely. There are many more like me and with us not spending a dime we don't have to, you can expect more job losses. All I can do now is try and hold on to what I have. Unfortunately, that means someone else ends up out of a job. It's every man for himself now.

The next biggest problem for America will be the baby boomers retracting their spending, as their 401k accounts shirvel. Remember their the ones who buy the new cars, travel extensivley and spend the real money..but not any more. Hows your 401 k today ? Well mine went down 15K this year....

It does not exactly work like that. Company don't pay for over time anymore. If you work overtime they just give you more days off. Although you'd be lucky to actually get your days off when it comes time for you to use them.
Companies want you to work the overtime and not let you use the days off. I am finding out that they will string you along for the extra hours and not approve you for the days you request off. And you can't complain about it, because if you do your name will be on their list next December for people they "have to let go because of budget cuts." No one can say or do anything about it for fear of losing their job. Everyone knows that if you do lose your job it is not likely you'll find another, and if you do it will be a MAJOR income cut.

Here in Rhode Island our unemployment is up to 8.5% and we don't even make cars.

Same with a lot of markets. The media likes to show the "national" unemployment level hovering around 6.9% or so, but just take a look at some specific markets where unemployment skyrocketed 30 - 40% in just a few months around the country:
