thanks for the comforting words, i am sure it's going to be alright! i was nervous about moving to LA 8 years ago and it turned out great! we just stayed away from the not-so-nice/safe areas and we survived!
surviving the cold weather will definitely be a challenge - i just put away all my winter clothes because of the summer-like weather here (it's only March)!! i am a snowboarder so i love snow...but living in snow for months will be a different thing! (btw, where is the nearest ski resort??)
my husband will be working in royal oaks - what areas should we look to buy/rent if he wants to limit the commute to 15mins? what areas to stay away from?
any advice will be appreciated!

Default Shallow with no "downtown"

Well...in a whole, Novi is really just quag of shopping and restaurants with a mall representing its "downtown". No but it isn't a terrible place to live, GM and Ford execs are fleeing like mad before their houses are worth a couple dimes. I lived there for four years north of 96. Nothing really "here" to stay for. Really the product of mid 80's and early 90's boom growth, turned the other way. Yes If i was an independent millionaire I would by a cookie cutter stick hut and watch the for sale signs line the sub divisions. Oakland county has been ranked 2nd wealthiest county in the nation for several years........but is loosing its influence as the money goes south and west. The old investors who inhabit B.Hills and Birmingham are taking their investments and volumes of wall street journals and selling out. The flood waters even reach the top of the hill....in time.

look on Craigslist.com for housing- or temporary housing, while you check out the area for yourself.
