Please help as I am moving to Battle Creek soon due to a job.
My biggest concern regards safety and crime.
Is Battle Creek really as bad as some make it sound?
I hate the thought of driving in the snow so I don't want
to live to far from Battle Creek.
What are the good areas of Battle Creek?
Is every area north of downtown BC a bad area?
Is Pennfield part of Battle Creek? What parts of the Pennfield
area are safe? What about Emmet Township, is it safe?
How is the area around the casino (Harper Creek, I think)?
What are the best areas to live regarding low crime and safety in Battle Creek?

No it isn't as bad as people make it sound. Stay in the Lakeview area and you will be fine. They are expanding downtown in the near future, and will make living in the downtown area more attractive as far as lofts, and apartment buildings go. This may be a few years down the road however.
Pennfield is part of BC but I am not sure why. It is basically off in the middle of nowhere, not really close to anything shopping or civilization wise, other then what is the Bailey Park area.
You can get a nice house in the area of Lakeview. I wouldn't just go for the cheapest house however, as you can get decent deals in nice neighborhoods now near doctors and other professionals. Private message me if you'd like more information on the area.

I gotta start off saying I moved to Tennessee 4 years ago, so my info is outdated by at least that much, but I still have family in the area, so it's not as bad as it may sound...

Crime I think is over-rated no matter where you are at. I'd not worry about it all that much so long as you are not moving into the inner city or the known 'trouble' areas...

Is Battle Creek really as bad as some make it sound?
I grew up there (28+ years) and for the most part loved it!

I hate the thought of driving in the snow so I don't want
to live to far from Battle Creek.
What are the good areas of Battle Creek?
Will school districts help?
I grew up in the Lakeview area. It's the "preppy school" in town and is home of Cascade Hills and the Country Club. MOST parts in this area are pretty decent...

Central is the downtown school and while it offers some great classes, it's a bit rougher there.

Harper Creek is the home of the farmer, lol... but does have some GREAT perks. If you wanna live out in the country, this is NOT a bad school or area by any means. I'm unsure of the more residential areas though.

Pennfield is a decent area as well, but does have it's rough spots....overall though it's the best school district in the area in my opinion. It's also got a few very nice sub-divisions.

Springfield is in the inner-city again, in fact, Springfield itself is enclosed by Battle Creek City Limits...

Is every area north of downtown BC a bad area?
Saying YES would be wrong, but heh, not that wrong. I'd suggest not moving into the Washington Heights area for instance... There ARE some nice areas, but I'm not sure what they are.

Is Pennfield part of Battle Creek?
Yeah, and is a GREAT school district, or at least was back when I graduated back in 91 (LOL). It's smaller then the rest of them so there is more teacher/student interaction.

What parts of the Pennfield area are safe?
I'm sorry to say I am just not sure...

What about Emmet Township, is it safe?
I lived in the "Post Addition" which is part of the Emmet area. I'd not suggest it... but there are some nicer areas in Emmet.

How is the area around the casino (Harper Creek, I think)?
I'd suggest staying away from the actual Casino area, statistically the immediate area will go down hill... though you may see a spike in real estate prices before that happens

What are the best areas to live regarding low crime and safety in Battle Creek?

All in all, I'd say most of the Lakeview area and many parts of Pennfield and Harper Creek. Though each area has it's own hot spots, just like the larger hot spots have their own little paradises.

Hello all,

I moved to Battle Creek about 4 months ago from Florida due to family deaths. Battle Creek is one of the worst places I have ever lived, Summit Point is the GOD of battle creek. It is little Detroit. The best thing to do is stay out of Battle Creek.

alright alright alright, dont listin to any of the bull**** below, Alltho Battle creek is deffinitly MUCH better than to be considered a "Little Detroit", (Flint would better fit that title ) , It does have its bad areas. ima be straight up real wit u guys EAST Battle creek, around Cliff street,East Coulmbia, and East Capital Ave is the Hood, or Ghetto. "Post Edtion" allthough gettin better than before, is the hood. If moveing to batlle creek, move to Urbandale, LakeVeiw, or although springfeild is rather low income, it is low on crime.

If you work in Battle Creek. Live outside of Battle Creek. Marshall, Richland, Delton, even Kalamazoo. I moved out of Battle Creek when i turned 18 and vowed never to return. Fast forward 20 years and the folks are getting older so i picked up a job in Battle Creek again to be closer. Needless to say i moved to Delton and i love it. Can be a 30 minute drive to work but it’s well worth that margin of separation. But working in BC reminds me why i vowed not to live here again. The town is in a downward spiral. There is nothing here to give it any kind of recovery. All the soil and water is contaminated. Large blocks of old industrial buildings are condemned and can’t be built on because of contaminants to they just sit there and rot. South side of 94 is becoming crime ridden. Meth and heroine is huge right now. City doesn’t seem to be doing anything about it either
