My neighbor in Michigan (a lieutenant in the local police) once told me the police departments did NOT have quotas either. Guess it is just a matter of linquistics and learning to ask the right questions?

Why would you step out of the car, or open your trunk? Because one way or the other you will be forced to do it.

If asked to step out of the car your supposed to hit the auto lock button on the way out and just leave your cell phone on the front seat. Now if it was me, I'd just leave the keys in there as well, (can always call triple a later). They're supposed to only search you car if they smell pot smoke or can visibly see something illegal and they can't take all day about it either, i.e. detain you for 5 hours waiting for the dope -sniffing dog to show up.
