Have tried multiple searches with no results..

I'm sure with all the people moving out of Michigan, that there has to be some people that are currently collecting unemployment and will still be once they move. How do you transfer your unemployment benefits from one state to another? Can it even be done? Thanks for the replys!!

Excellent question. I have wondered the same thing. If you flee Michigan, what happens to your unemployment?

I think this issue is covered in the manual you got when you first applied for unemployment.

I applied online and have not recieved any sort of manual. I guess I'll go the the office here in a few days and ask. I'll post back up here for everyones benefit once I find out the process.

When I moved to AZ in 2007, I was drawing unemployment from MI. I had to register with AZ Employment Service agency stating that I was seeking employment. They communicate with MI UIA. I still had to call MARVIN every two weeks to update my claim.

I applied online and it took about a week to get the manual, it's a green booklet. Yesterday I got a debit card to withdraw UI benefits from the bank. I found this to be a little odd to get a debit card because I haven't won my claim yet. I don't think my last employer will fight my claim, but now I have a temp service who I did a two week stint with sticking their nose into it and all of the sudden they are gung ho about finding me some work.

As far as the moving away goes, I'd stay put and collect, then move.

That will be nice if it is still as easy as that. I should find out for sure in the next couple days. It's been 3 weeks since I filed and still have not recieved the booklet. Thanks for the link, zthat, I'll look into it. I will not get a debit card since mine is being direct deposited.

I'm already collecting but I don't want to wait 6 months before I move.

It's easy, you dont transfer anything. You simply call marvin on your cell phone, and transfer your mail. I did this 2 years ago when looking for a place to move. I had my mail forwarded to "general delivery" in the city I was in. Then I would go into that main citys PO and show them my ID. They would simply give me my mail. There is no law saying you can not look for work elsewhere. If you have moved you can still do it this way, but it may not be legal at that point.
