Virtually anything that can be prepared or repaired there seems to be a forum for it online.

Food was mentioned and I'm not one of the doom and gloomers that's predicting severe depression and empty grocery store shelves but what if it did get that bad? It might be a good time to learn survival skills needed in a worst case scenario.
I can gut and hang a deer in about 1/2 hour. Cut it up and freeze it in about 4 hours.

There are a lot of societal ills involved in our constant need for instant gratification. I think that is more of a problem than not being as self-sufficient as we can. My parent's generation didn't have brand new everything when they started out married life i.e. they worked until they could afford something before buying it. It's too late to go back to the days of total self-sufficiency, in my opinion, but if everyone did something towards the cause of making our world greener, it would add up over the nation. But most of all, young people need to quite living on credit.
