Hi all,

I'll be doing an AmeriCorps service year in Ann Arbor starting in a few weeks. I'm looking to room with someone in Ypsilanti who currently doesn't have TV, but is okay with my adding it myself for the time I'm there. So I'm looking for recommendations for a company that offers the most basic of basic channel packages (ABC, NBC, and CBS are the only real channels I watch. Well, and TNT, but that only seems to come with pricier packages) without A. only giving me a good rate for 12 months if I sign up for 24, or B. not letting me cancel after a year. I'm open to any type of service, but I am looking for something that will let me watch live- not next-day services like Hulu, great as those options are.

I think Dish Network would be the one that would give you the best deal upfront. I'll PM you $50 discount number if you want it. That'll give you a discount right off the bat, and you can negotiate with the CSR for anything else you can get. They are really good on loading you up with discounts right at first, hoping that you stay longer as a customer. They have all sorts of packages, at all sorts of prices.

They send us a bunch of discount coupons to hand out to friends every year, hoping we bring them some business.
