We moved from CVX to this God awful state we live in now two years ago. I was wondering how the town has been doing since 2007? And can anyone tell me if that ice cream/sandwich shop , MaryAnns, is still open?

Which God awful state is that? I think New Mexico fits that description, but you might have another opinion...

I grew up in Charlevoix county and am now in Las Cruces, NM. I find NM preferable mainly due to the weather.

Well,

I find Las Cruces and Charlevoix quite delightful.

But.....

Can't get good fudge, perch, or walleye in Cruces....

....can't get chiles, Nellie's, or Day's in Charlevoix either.

I dunno.

The majesty of the Organ Mountains....or the beauty of the Northern Lower Penninsula.

The Great Lake State or the Land of Enchantment.

I'm torn.

Yes, MaryAnn's Takeout is still open. Every day at my work, we get a fax of the daily specials. Two guys also opened JP's Takeout in the old Taco Bell, which is pretty decent. Charlevoix is about the same at least I think. I haven't noticed much growth or decline. But I only work there and tend to stay north of the bridge whenever possible.

Where the heck was that?

Castle Park?

I saw Cheap Trick & Billy Squier there.

That would have been Castle Farms...the old Loeb estate built in the early 1900's as a semi-idyllic demonstration farm. It's been restored since the rock n roll days, and is more likely to have weddings happening on the grounds that Cheap Trick shows.

Re: Las Cruces vs NW Lower Mich./Charlevoix. In LC you can get the plank, but not the fresh Whitefish to roast on it, surrounded by mashed potatos, etc.
Of course, the red or green chile in Charlevoix is not up to LC standards...or even available at all.
I"m a big fan of NW MI from May to Nov. and S. New Mexico, Mesilla in my case, during the other months. The best of both worlds.

That would be Connecticut. I would take NM over CT anyday if I could handle the heat
