I think you're right.

Anyhoo, glad to see that an international company recognizes the talent pool in Michigan. Folks there know how to make things.

As soon as a factory, power plant or much of anything plans to build, the protests start. Michigan's people is getting what they deserve, IMO.

In my area they just protested a coal plant. 2800 jobs gone.

Does anyone think that Michigan has the potential to become a major scientific research center, as well as another Silicon Valley(or Silicon Lake in Michigan's case)?

Define "potential."

Does it have the talent and schools ? Yes.

Is the possibility of major investment into developing that potential in MI higher than in other places ? Don't think so. It's not the only place with a potential.

Besides, the research has to be funded, and if the Big 3 won't fund it, who will ? Toyota ? Companies that fund the research would rather bring scientists and engineers to them, not the other way around.

There are universities with a pool of talent. The thing needed to keep them in Michigan is the companies moving to Michigan.
