Hi. Has anyone hired a moving company to move between Pennsylvania ( or any nearby state) to the U.P.? I wanted to get an idea of cost. We are trying to decide between renting a truck and doing everything ourselves and just letting someone else do it. Any rough idea would be very helpful.

Spend some time on this forum to help locate a reputable moving company. I used it when moving from Vegas to Indiana and had a really positive experience...there's a ton of great info....

Default Either way...

If you drive the truck, it will be slow going but it's nice to have all of your things with you.

ABF U-Pack is an option, if you are going to load anyway, b/c it is a secure container that is then fork-lifted onto a semi so your things are safe and don't mingle with anyone else's - you buy your own lock for it. And ABF drops it off and you load and lock it. At your destination, they drop off the container & you unload & they pick it up.

I did this for a one-bedroom & it worked great. I drove my own car with some things, but my other stuff arrived at their holding facility within days of my arrival. I just called, they dropped it off, we unloaded and they picked up the container.

I enjoyed being able to drive just the car but if you or the hubby don't mind, the costs are close. The hassle of driving the truck for me wasn't worth it.

Oh, and good luck with your move and enjoy the U.P. - my family is from there/live there

I just hired ABF Upack to move from Bowling Green, OH to Charlotte, NC.

The price was comparable to Uhaul, in our case it was cheaper! We rented the 28' trailer, packed ourselves and they hauled. We used 13 linear feet at the price of $1230. Uhaul 26' truck with tow dolly was quoted at $1217, but then you had fuel expense on top of that, which would probably be around $200.

The downside... and, this may be due to traveling through the mountains, but some of our items did get damaged and/or distroyed. The damages were minimal, but damaged none the less. The items distroyed were inexpensive, but also inconvenient.

ABF's customer service was absolutely wonderful to work with, though!

Thank you everyone! I did get a quote from ABF and they were comperable to Uhaul, However, They could only deliver 50-75 miles away from my final destination. So I would still need to hire someone from that point or still rent a truck! Thank you all again!
