Not trying to be snarky, just genuinely curious.
I don't think it's a matter of different political views being detrimental, more that it's just nice to live around people who have the same mindset that you do....no "rocking the boat", so to speak.

This makes sense that people want to live in area of like minded people.

Unless you really concentrate living with a group of people who are outspokenly antagonistic to your paradigm can be frustrating.

We've had our ups and (very few) downs living in a mostly Conservative area (in fact I don't know one person I am friends with in this town who isn't Republican, my Liberal friends are folks who live elsewhere). However, despite the minimal frustrations that have occured living with mostly (at least those who speak out) Conservative folks, the lions share of these Conservative folks are good people. I don't agree with them politically, but they are good folks who will help me as fast as any of my liberal friends. They just happen to vote differently and how they vote means absolutely nothing to me. It's how they treat me and my kids that I count. Their political affiliation has nothing to do with their character.

I'd rather hang with a cool, friendly Conservative than a jerk Liberal.
