I heard on NPR News this morning that they're talking about "streamlining" the state's Community Mental Health centers by reducing the number of boards from 48 to 12, or something drastic like that. As someone who works in one of these centers, I can see the point of having fewer administrative costs, but is merging the boards really a good idea?

As it is we're affiliated with 3 other county boards:

One of them had a massive meltdown and the board fired all the administrators for crazy spending. That county is ALWAYS hiring which you know is a bad sign, especially in times like these.

Another was spending our county's money on their clients, leaving ours high and dry. Their spending is not as bad as the first one I mentioned, but it's pretty bad -- they are eliminating many jobs this year and doing across-the-board pay cuts for everyone who's left.

My county is solvent and actually serving and hiring more people due to sensible money management. I would like our CMH to stay on the right track. Are there any other mental-health workers or taxpayers on this site who would like to discuss?
