Looking at some really nice homes in Gladstone, Michigan. Does anyone know how bad the winters are there? What is the town like?

Grew up just south of Gladstone (in Escanaba). Winters there aren't as severe as they are on the Superior shoreline, but they can be quite cold - not sure where you're coming from, but it can take some time to adjust to.

The town itself is very quiet, but nice - there's a decent park and beach on Lake Michigan. Super Wal-Mart and other retail outlets are about 10-15 minutes away in Escanaba.

Gladstone is a great little community. Very quiet. Very close-knit. It is not as commercialized as Escanaba, and not as big and diverse as Marquette, for better or for worse. You will not live your life exclusively in Gladstone -- really all we have are a post office and a small (and pricey!) grocery store.

I was actually going to say it's a cosy community. I grew up in Ravenna, outside of GR, and it's similar. Though the winters can be abit wishy washy in terms of the dry and wet cold.....up in Gladstone, it's a place I could see myself retiring....though I dont know what I'd be doing with the rest of my time....most likely attending to my vegatable or home garden....
