I been in a state when they passed a bill like this. All the bar owners and restaurant owners were convinced they were going to lose money and maybe even have to close up. Reality was every single one I knew. gained business and did better after the smoking ban than before. A slight dip right after it went into effect, but with-in a couple of weeks, business was right back where it was before, and a month or two later, better than before.
Yeah, sorry...but the argument of losing money just dont fly. If its a good place, it will do fine.

Many uninformed business (bar & restaurant) owners make that silly argument against the smoking bans. I could never figure out why these dingdongs would want to run a business that caters to MAYBE 20% of the population (smokers). Many of them fail because they lack some elementary comprehension. Those with common sense adapt to the times and move forward, always improving.

People don't care what others do to their own body. Drink up! It's when that choice is forced on other patrons and employees to suck down and share in the toxins that we grow concerned.

This is great news for Michigan. Finally steps into the big leagues. The major coastal cities did this years ago and it's been a rousing economic success, despite concerns to the contrary. People started spending more time in bars and going to them more frequently.

Well looks like another victory for the nanny state. If you dont like smokey places, dont eat in them. If too many people dont like smokey places and it cost them money, the businesses will change their smoking policies. This is how America is supposed to work. Finding some ninnie lobby group to go get a dictate passed down from goverment to restrict peoples freedom is the way things are done in the socialist nations. Oh thats right, this is the age of Obama and we ARE a socialist state. Well now the goverment is gonna save you from second hand smoke, as well as make sure your buckled up in your car, your kid is wrapped and strapped in a car seat, a helmet on your head if you ride a motercycle or even a peddle bike. Soon they will restrict how many big macs we can eat or how many beers we can drink. I cant wait till they run our health care. We have tyranny folks, wake up America.

If people weren't idiots they could govern themselves but alas, people can't manage life without government. I also don't see tyranny in the 37 other states that adopted the same policy.

It's ironic that the people who complain the most about government are the ones most eager to pollute others' lungs and the global air, creating a need for government to step in to protect the collective well being.

If people regulated themselves, there would be no need for government. People are selfish, so they reap what they sow.

And, patrons can go elsewhere but it's a lot tougher for employees to just quit a job). Also, it's really hard to find a place that doesn't allow smoking to go.

It should be common sense to put your child in a car seat. If you think otherwise, the government should have you sterelized

I am a non-smoker who only frequents no smoking allowed establishments..... but I don't think we need a law making the decision for business owners regarding smoking.

If a smoker owns a tavern and wants to cater to that 20% of the population (smokers) as someone above said, then it should be their right to do so.

They should have sold cigars and pipe tobacco. They could get grandfathered in maybe. There are bars in no smoking states that do this and they get away with it. The government can't shut you down if your main customers are smokers and you sell smoking products.

There is very little you usually post that I agree with, but you are 100% correct with this post.
