If I was to live anywhere around Flint, it would probably be Swartz Creek.

Im sorry to hear your being sent to such a sorry place. My advice would be to commute in from outside Genesee county. There are lots of small country towns in the surrounding counties of Saginaw, Shiawassee, or east to Lapeer or even down in Livingston county. Even the nicer towns in Genesee county are tainted by the presence of Flint, and its problems that inevidably end up in the surrounding areas and their schools. Its worth the gas money to be away from that depressing area.

Flushing, Grand Blanc, Fenton and Davison. The commute from northern Oakland county to downtown Flint is not that bad (about 30 minutes). Lapeer is also an area to check out as well.

That is a load of bull****! Flint City is comparable to Detroit City. Detroit has some of the nicest suburbs in this country and Flint's suburbs are comparable to the suburb's of Detroit. Outside of Burton and Mt. Morris there isn't much criminal carry-over from Flint. Most of Flint's bad elements stay in Flint proper and Mt. Morris is actually not bad and Burton is not so bad either so I don't know where you came of with that.

I have touched some nerves here and set off the Genessee county residents into super defensive mode here. The reason they have become upset is because what I say is true. The nicest parts in the Flint area have drugs and violence in the community. Even the auto insurance is higher in that area because of all the losses. My advice to the OP, go check it out on the net. Look up the statistics on that area, then go visit it. One of the above even suggested Mt Morris and Burton, both towns are run down and have major issues. Im sure some of these people would also say "Flint is not that bad" or something like that. These people are just angry that someone is saying some not so nice things about their towns, and I understand that. However for someone considering looking for a nice place to live, you would be wise to avoid anywhere inside Genesee county, with the exception of Fenton or Linden which are both nice towns with much less Flint problems spilling over into them. I wish you the best of luck.

I didn't suggest Burton or Mt. Morris please read my post again. I said those two communities would be in best interest to avoid as they are really the only 2 places that have a crime spill over from Flint. Flint's problems are not carried over to any where else in the county but those two.

Based on school reviews and a quick drive, I have narrowed the choice down to Flushing and Fenton (lake fenton, linden, etc). If anyone has any insider informtion on any of these towns I would greatly appreciate it.
