Around here a lot of stores, not just the liquor stores close early on Christmas Eve and are closed on Christmas so their employees can enjoy the holiday.

Yes, but there are restaurants open here (Asian and Indian especially) that are open on Christmas and can't serve alcohol.

stanman, what other religious holidays are there when you can't buy alcohol?

I guess it would have just been Easter and Christmas. If they changed it to allow sales on Easter, I guess that would just leave Christmas. I'm just going by memory here, I can't really quote you the law.

No, that's fine. I checked and you can buy alcohol on Easter, except before Noon (the usual Sunday law).

It just bothers me that religious people are forging policy in this State, based on religious beliefs, as recently as 1998. I can see it back at the turn of the century, but today?? WTF??? Please stop voting these a**holes into office.

I agree, Magellan. I also think that the religious are a bit hypocritical here. Did not Jesus supply the booze for the wedding party (water into wine)? I guess I unfairly target the religious. It was really part of the temperance movement.

There was a "push" fairly recently to change MI's law a little; regarding times of sale. It would've allowed bars to stay open and serve 'til 3 or 4 am.

That idea died, as many bar owners said they'd still close by 2:00am. They figured that sales wouldn't increase THAT much but the liabilities would.

Arizona changed its law about 10 years ago; gotta stop at 2:00am. Still, many places are done by midnight or 1:00am. Tempe, AZ has a huge block party for the New Year's Eve bash. It shuts down at 12:30am....

I am a religious person, so I'm certainly not bashing religious people. However, I'm sick and tired of people trying to create a "one-religion" country (and State). They might as well call themselves American Taliban.
