I'm moving from Gaylord, MI to a suburb of Chicago, IL or a suburb of Orlando, FL next summer. I think the economy will turn around by then, or at least be better then it is now and I need help trying to decide where to move to. If there are other areas of the country that you recommend that are expected to grow more with jobs let me know. I realize moving near Chicago is alot closer of a drive home to see family then flying from Orlando, but Orlando has the better weather. I am 28 years old and havent been out of college long, and either has my girlfriend. She is 24 years old. We plan to get married but want to move first. Where is the best place to go? Michigan has an unemployment rate of 14.5% which is the highest in the country, so we both want to move someplace more fun and a place that is growing, but yet isnt a pain to go back to Gaylord, MI.

Gaylord is wonderful. Just be positive and a job will come to you. Ignore any statistic you read about Gaylord.

That's not what they are saying or implying.

Then why do they keep telling me that? Gaylord is wonderful. I can't believe anybody would want to leave. I mean, Greg at the Shell station knows who I am.

I dont think you quite understand what being positive means. If there were two people applying for the same job, and one was a negative, down on everything person (like yourself), and the other was a positive, confident person, guess who would most likely get the job? Being positive about things does not mean a job will just fall in your lap, or crime will disappear, it means things will be more likely to go your way. Maybe a simpler way to put it to you. If two evenly matched teams were playing say a basketball game, and one team thinks they suck, and are gonna get crushed, and the other team said we are the best, no way we can lose...guess who will most likely win? Understand yet?

Then why did the company pick me out of the entire state to come up to Gaylord to fix the mess? You are confusing reality and truth with being negative because the truth isn't what you want to hear.

I interned once in Orlando and Orlando was terrible. I have no idea why you chose Orlando, but the job market is not good in Florida. Orlando is a tourist town with mostly service jobs and low wages. The whole state of Florida has low wages and higher cost of living.

Than they would've fired me like the hundred or so other employees when they downsized.

I was actually answering the OP's question about Orlando.

Orlando's unemployment rate is 11.9%. The county I live in is 13.4%. The economy is not good here.
