You may want to look in the Durand, Vernon, Owosso or Corunna area. These are very nice little towns, and about 15-20 minutes west of flint

If your willing to go out 30 miles, Owosso area has lots to offer in that price range. Owosso is a nice clean town, low crime and affordable. The north side of town seems to be the nicest area. (near the hospital) Owosso is outside Genesee county so taxes and car insurance is cheaper. (your not paying for Flints problems) Another nice area that is commutable to Flint is south, toward Fenton. That area is a bit more money, but there is lots of shopping/restaraunts there.
