I know this has been discussed before, but maybe there are some new ones to add now. right now I am reading "So Cold a Sky" Upper Michigan Weather Stories, and it is fantastic! I am searching for some real good books on the earlier days, when Michigan was being settled, or anything along those lines. Of course any suggestions about anything Michigan is fine.

Not books, but have you checked the State of Michigan online library for written accounts of settling different areas? Also different accounts can be found on rootsweb which is part of Ancestry.com. Here is the Michigan page MI history page

A quick Google search of the areas you are interested in may net you some cool accounts, written or narrated by those who actually was there at the time. Some were done quite a while ago by interviewing the oldest members of a town and preserving their stories. I know my little town of Scottville did that back in the 50's & 60's. Some were done even before that, there is one done by my G,G,G Aunt about when she came into town before the stumps were totally cleared from the Main Street back in the early 1870's.

Go to Amazon and look up the book "Waiting for the Morning train" by Bruce Catton.

I took Michigan History at a community college in the early 90's and this was one of the required books. I liked it well enough to give as gifts to a couple of the old timers in my family.

I have a few other books from that class which I enjoyed but they're still packed away. Will let you know when I dig them out.

You can always go to Borders - Books, Used Books, Music, DVDs & Blu-ray and find books on any information/selection as to what your looking for/interest you.

But these are newer books (which may cost a little more), however, these are updated and have moer accurate information.
