I opened my claim for unemployment in April 2009...I collected the 26 weeks allowed then received notice in the mail in October about being eligible for emergency unemployment compensation. I received that for 20 weeks and just received a letter in the mail about filing for extended benefits. My question is aren't you suppose to receive more weeks than the 20 weeks for the emergency unemployment compensation before moving onto the extended benefits?

There are several extensions, however I thought that there might be some emergency benefits that weren't extended back in the fall. I'm not sure!

No, the legislature that narrowly passed today because senator Bunning was overthrown from his stance will ensure EUC or emergency benefits to many Americans. Michigan does not pay for EUC it is a federally funded program that you must qualify for after you exhaust your 20 week emergency benefits. You have to re-apply for unemployment to be considered and they will look at your current income and determine whether you are eligible or not. Even if you are approved for EUC, you have to jump through many more hoops to get the money including showing proof that you are constantly job searching.
