List what you like about Michigan.

1. Less crowded then other states.

2. Lots of wilderness. [well up north]

3. Nice small towns.

4. We have a bunch of coastline.

5. University towns.

Several years ago my wife and I were considering moving south like Virginia or someplace like that. Then we got an RV and started traveling all around Michigan. After really being able to see what an amazing state we live in, there is no way we will ever leave. I cant even imagine leaving....I would miss it more then anything! I love everything about this state!

I agree.

I moved to Illinois...

UGH...

I couldnt wait to get back.

Virginia, I spent some years in as a child, I believe it is far more over-crowded then MI, I went there, in 2001 [near DC area] and just the sheer population of people freaked me out, like it had gotten 10 times higher. I couldnt wait to get back "home".

I hate the town I live in now, but I know MI has many nice areas, and was very happy in a small MI town..

So I never want to leave MI.

--Super friendly people. I live in the kind of small town where you go to the post office and end up chatting with the clerk for twenty minutes. In fact, everyone here seems friendly and chatty.

--Beautiful scenery! There are only a handful of states where you can ski AND go to the beach.

--Mackinac Island! It is so gorgeous and peaceful and relaxing.

--Detroit. Yep, Detroit. There is just something about that city...the grittiness, the rich history, the tragic decline...it's like a really good novel that you can't put down...IDK, I can't really explain it, I just love Detroit. I find it exciting that people are coming up with ideas to turn Detroit around and I feel a sense of anticipation in waiting to see how it will all play out. People from other states who bash Detroit have:

1.) More than likely never been there and just need a place to bash to make them feel better about themselves and where they live, and

2.) Generally have no idea about the rich, rich history of this iconic American city and the impact that it has had on the making of America. Like Brad Edwards from Fox2 News said, "we built the biggest middle class in the United States and we put it on four wheels". That gives me goosebumps! America would be a drastically different country without the contributions that Detroit has made, and there are only a handful of cities that you can honestly say that about. Detroit, for better or for worse, IS America in so many ways.

I still have not gotten over Michigan. It's like no place on earth to me. I think about it all the time. I'm not from Michigan and I only lived there a short time but it had such a profound effect on me. The trees, the fresh air, the water ,the landscape and so many other things about it that I just can't put into words. Michigan a best kept secret. I hope I can return one day and make it my permanent home.
