Hi there! I'm currently living in an apartment complex that's really overpriced and found Villas of Woodgate on rent.com. I was excited when I saw how affordable they were and I went to look at the model today and besides being a little small and old I didn't notice any problems with the place. I applied there and was accepted, but it wasn't until now that I Google searched the apartments and found a lot of horror stories about the place... robberies, sex offenders everywhere, drug deals going down, sometimes in plain sight... you name it, people have said it.

I suppose what I'd like to know is if anyone here has rented there previously, or if they're familiar with the Edgewood Blvd. 48911 zip code area of Lansing. I'm currently in Delta Township which is really nice and quiet, so I'm a little leery to move to some place that's been deemed "ghetto" and "dangerous" by a lot of people.

Does anyone have any experiences, positive OR negative from this area? I'm a female, so I'd really like to avoid moving to a place where I'd have to fear for my safety because of high crime.

Thanks so much!

Don't know much about the area, but have driven by a number of times and they look pretty rundown.

Rent is probably cheap for a reason. Reviews online seem less than positive.

Would be very cautious if I were you.

I lived off Edgewood just beyond the Villas of Woodgate on a sidestreet suburb. That area was residential and very, very quiet. I didn't get any riff-raff from the apts. However, that was '00-'01, so I don't know how the area has been since.

Knowing the VofW apts, please, please, PLEASE check over the apt they would issue you very carefully. I worked for a competitor of this type of apt, built by the same builder and once all owned by the same property management company. The original company filed bankruptcy and sold off the properties (this was early-mid 80's). Because of how the apts are built, they can actually be a haven for mold if they haven't been properly taken care of. Check attic space, carefully look at the bathroom / kitchen, etc.

Honestly, if you can pay just a little more, I'd probably try to find someplace else. I don't know about VofW, but the apts complexes that are townhouses between VofW and Cedar do have riff-raff, drug dealers and just nasty people. I was in there a few years ago as a sales agent for Comcast. I personally wouldn't want to live close to the apts on Edgewood. If you go off the street (look up Hilliard), that area is nice and quiet.
