Looking at a job in the Dimondale area. I was wondering what it's like and any areas that are close?

If I bought a house in this area it would be on a small budget, less than $100K but I am under the impression that this area is expensive for real estate...correct?

Another concern is crime. Being close to Lansing i'm sure it has its bad areas and I think I read that it's the south part you want to avoid. Does that include Dimondale area?

Thanks for any information!

Dimondale is a nice suburban/bedroom community and crime really isn't going to be an issue there. I don't know if I would consider the real estate "expensive", but a lot of the homes in that area range from $150,000-250,000. Downtown Dimondale has a great small-town feel to it.

However, I think you might be able to find one in your price range if you look around. Here are a couple that I found on Craigslist:

Holt/dimondale School District (http://lansing.craigslist.org/reb/1655404122.html - broken link)

9970 Holt Hwy (http://lansing.craigslist.org/reb/1655903313.html - broken link)

Dimondale is safe. I lived in Holt for a short stint while in school.. homes in Holt are cheap. It's not fancy by any means and the population is a bit rough around the edges but it's like any small town in MI. There are various websites you can utilize to search for housing in and around Holt/Dimondale which I can't mention because apparently it's advertising lol

The only crime in Dimondale might be petty larceny, or shooting off bottle rockets on 4th of July. I know, I grew up there.

And real estate there is cheap. There's a lot of rural open farmland between the South end of Lansing and Dimondale.

Whether you can get anything decent there for $100K is another question (or anywhere for that matter). To get into Holt Schools, if you have kids, Dimondale is the way to go.
