Hi everyone, I am 24 years old (male) about to move into Michigan from Ohio. I am going to be working in Wyandotte, but I am trying to live in a place where I can make an easy commute to work but want to live in a place that has a good night life. I have heard something about Royal Oak but am not sure about the drive down 75 through Detroit. I have heard of Ferndale, Allen Park, Canton, Northville, Farmington, and Novi. Any advice?

Default If your looking for a trendy area

Of all the areas you've mentioned Royal Oak is by far the hippest, trendiest town. Lots of Diversity, some grunge and goth type thing. Lots of nightlife. Joggers and bike riders etc.
Very busy downtown area. There's shopping, lots of outdoor cafes/restaurants and bars. Parking can be very hard to find in town and a Pain in the....Spent many weekends there when I was younger and really liked it.
As far as your drive goes its pretty much a straight shot via 75 and should take you roughly anywhere between 25-35 minutes depending on traffic/time of day.
Also if you take 75 you really don't drive through Detroit (unless you choose to) 75 just kinda skims the edge of it.
Hope this helps and welcome

While not nearly the size of Royal Oak, downtown Wyandotte has a pretty good bar scene.

Crash must be thinking about Telegraph Road not I-75 for a road that just skims Detroit. I-75 from Royal Oak to Wyandotte goes through the heart of Detroit. I would not call it an easy commute since it is on a very busy urban freeway but Google has it at 35 minutes.
