Do a search for a Veterans Service Office in your area.
Ask at the American Legion or VFW or IAVA office if you can't track one down on the internet.

I'm told they're more effective than most congressional offices.

Any UA worth their salt should be able to do this.

I am guessing that you are still in the Guard or Reserves; which is it?

If you are Guard every year you should be getting an NGB form 23 which shows the number of points by year that you have earned. Additionally you have to accumulate so many points per year between drills and A.T. to have a good retirement year. I find it odd that you have 18 years in the reserve component and you haven't gotten on top of this or understand the system.

If you let me know what component you are in and what state I might be able to direct you to someone to assist you. Prior to going active duty I was an Operations NCO with an Army Guard unit so I understand the system, at least as it ran then.

You will have to prove (document) your military service, present it to your UA and have her update the system.

First things is a copy of your DD214 from your active duty service.

Second is your NGB from(s) 22 and RPAS statements that document your national guard service.

Third would be your RPAS statements documenting your Reserve service.

If any of the paperwork show you didn't have a good year for retirement purposes (60 points) you will have to prove differently. The only thing that will be acceptable proof is copies of your LES for the months/years in question. Copies of LESs for CAARNG service can be obtained from the USP&FO for CA at 805-594-6200. LESs for USAR service can be obtained from DFAS 1-888-DFAS411.

I would guess you might have a few bad years (for retirement) but then again you probably alread know that.

The bottomline is that YOU will have to prove your service and it's your responsibility NOT the UA or anyone else; especially considering you've crossed all 3 components of the Army.

Good luck
