I often drive between the Fairbanks area and Anchorage down the Parks Highway. There is a Veterans Memorial at about the 147 mile post, it is a very quiet place in the shadow of Mt. McKinley to Honor those that have served in the military and those that gave gave all.
Stopping there this last week with Memorial Day approaching, it occurred to me that I hadn't taken many pictures of the site, even though I am there many times each year, just to make my own quiet reflections of friends long gone and to pay respects to such a quiet place.
Here are some photos so others can see what I do when I am standing there.

I hope that if you ever have the chance to stop here, you take the time and feel the solitude and peace that is here. Any maybe say a prayer for any of those that are serving in harms way.
Wow! Thank you for sharing this special and inspiring monument. I will tell my son, who currently is stationed in Alaska, to check out this beautiful spot if he gets a chance.

I hope he has the Chance, I am told that there is a major program that goes on there on Memorial Day weekend.
Thanks for posting that, it is beautiful.
My parents met while my dad was serving at Marks Air Base in Nome and my uncle served in the Aleutians during WWII.
I found the history of the various military branches in AK very interesting.
Lovely pictures. Thank you for sharing. There was a time when my husband was thinking of going full time ANG at the unit in Anchorage, and even has friends up there, but he's decided to stay active duty in the regular Air Force. It really looks beautiful.
I cannot rep you just yet, Mark, but wanted to say the images are beautiful...I will stop there next time I go through. Thank you for your service!
Very neat place to be on a clear day, has a somber feeling to the place when you are there by yourself, even in the summer, there are small crowds, they are there for a short time inroute somewhere else and get back into the car and leave.
Thank you Mark, for those wonderful photos of Alaska's beautiful tribute to their men and women who served our country..And thank you Mark for still serving our great nation
