It's still there in the 2008 edition of the Manual of Courts Martial.

But, I'm hijacking the thread and don't want to do that.

I misunderstood the subject on this thread. When it said Enterprise skipper I thought they were talking about William Shatner, Capt. Kirk from teh Enterprise in Star Trek. As for the raunchy video with him I was thinking of Big Bad Mama with Angie Dickinson. WOW!

I'am a vet (Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class) and was on 2 West Pac cruises aboard the USS Constellation (CVA 64) Viet Nam 1965-67. I believe Captain Honors has a resonsibility to be a leader via using many alternative forms of morale than the various methods he unwttingly
concocted at sea. He may have defied the guidelines of the Navy Bluejacket Manual (Ch. 4
Respect authority and good behavior ) and (Ch.21 Proficiency in rating ,honor and conduct)
Captain Honors apparently abused his authority and his actions that are morally questionable,
but perhaps even more important his image and character also comes under scrutiny. My
recomendation based on admittedly too much publicity would be to receive mandatory visits
to a couselor (psychologist/chaplain), applogize via ships newsletter, continue fun with crew
with a less vugar, sexism and remembering the need for a leader to nuture (especially the young
crew) to instill respect for all who serve, civilians in ports of call and themselves.
If not compliant a demotion to CDR or LCDR, remove of ships command due to misbehavior and if that doesn't work send this guy to a receiving station scullery as a seaman apprentice for some R&R. Now if that doesn't work shave his head and shackle his ankles to his brig buds while screaming through the halls of Norforks chow hall "Make way prisioner sir!!!!!!".

Exactly... there was a similar scandal here in San Francisco, where a group of police officers made a VERY inappropriate training video. This video was leaked to the public, and the involved officers (20) were promptly suspended - not sure if they lost their jobs altogether, but I'm pretty sure a few are no longer with the force. The mayor even got involved, and it led to a citywide investigation of the SFPD.
Video scandal rocks S.F. police / 20 officers ordered suspended -- mayor says 'enough,' plans probe of SFPD (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/12/08/SFCOPS.TMP - broken link)

This isn't an issue of being "PC," it's a matter of ensuring people are doing their JOBS... the military is still a job, and just like any other, you are expected to maintain a certain level of professionalism (even more so in the military or public service). I can't make lewd jokes and videos at work, or I'd be fired - so why can they?

I'm not military so maybe I shouldn't comment, but...

The difference I see here is that when you are out to sea you are never allowed to be "off duty". All of our elected officials take breaks, vacations, etc and have down time from their duties. If military people are caught sleeping around or DUI etc. aren't they dismissed? Congress people and even Presidents aren't held to such a high standard yet are considered leaders. It just seems unfair to me.

Were people forced to watch this? I'm just asking, I don't know.

You can comment, and your comments are reasonable. You know, some people hate the military and everything it stands for...

Actually, you are never really off duty. If you reach retirement, you are still technically in the military (reserves at a reduced rate of pay).

Caught sleeping around or DUI etc? It depends, but dismissed is a vague term. You can be punished. The military has its own sets of laws and courts, the Military Code of Justice (UCMJ) http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sourc...OT7i0Q&cad=rja

There are a lot of unfair issues in life. In some ways the military is easier for some people. I enjoyed my 22+ years, but there were some rough times, and there are some parts I miss.

My understanding is that no one was forced to watch these videos which happened waht 3 or 4 years ago? To me, that is one of the sad parts, the years delay, I feel we do not know the whole story....

I have bowed to King Neptune, kissed the Royal Baby's belly(and man,was that chief hairy!),eaten a most horrific breakfast, and swam in a pool full of AFFF and vomit. It caused no long term damage to me,or anyone else who participated. The 36 hour UNREP's of carrier groups,or Battleship New Jersey, those might have cooked my brain !!!!
