Hi,

I have a friend and here is his situation.. I'd like some honest suggestions, ideas, thoughts.. whatever ....

He's 27, been in for 8 years. He's a mech. He was hurt at work (fell off an airplane) and since then has a few years of documented medical issues (herniation, bulging, etc)... He is now up for a med board. He also is not deployable. He has a "soft eos date" (??) for the end of this month (Feb).

Med board is still under review, detailer said that the Navy needs mechs badly and since he can't do his job due to medical limitations, she has no answers for him.

I and we both feel he's just in such limbo and to top things off, the base he's stationed at is under a B.R.A.C scheduled to shut down at the end of March.

Sooo.... does anyone have any thoughts about any of this?

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Many times troops undergoing MEB aren't thinking straight and just want it to end and get discharged, which is a bad idea. He needs to try and chill and let the system work no matter how long it takes to get a fair medical disability percentage and what ever benefits he's entitled too. He needs to have any and all medical issues addressed and documented prior to discharge; not just injuries but illness too. Additionally he needs to try and obtain copies of his medical records because he'll need them for the VA when he's discharged.

Sometimes it takes years for an MEB to run it's course, he just needs to try and chill.

PS: Most bases have a rep from DAV or the VFW located at the outprocessing/discharge offices. I would recommend he talk to someone from DAV and follow their advice.
