Ladies in the Navy~questions for you!! Especially Legalmen! (Marines, credit, enlistment)

I'm seriously considering joining the navy and have talked to several recruiters recently. I'm a 20 year old female. I have some college credits but I'm not going to be able to continue with my education here due to lack of funds and home situation. I have ALWAYS wanted to be a lawyer, or at least be in that field of work....the rating I would be interested would be as a Legalman with a 4 year enlistment. Everything sounds legit so far but I would love to get an insider opinion! Whats it REALLY like for a woman in the Navy??? I'm in decent physical shape and Im taking some time off from school just to work out and get myself mentally and physically ready. (Iv been on a swim team for 4 years, and ran track so the physical stuff isnt a problem) I have seen too many friends jump into the military and hate it and I just want to make sure I'm doing this for the right reasons- education, opportunity to travel and advance myself. Let me know what you think and some of your experiences!!! Id love to hear from a woman whos taken the legalman track. Or anyone who can tell me like, what else do you do on a ship when your not working your job, whats basic like? What are some of the things you go through in basic? Thanks!!

You must be E-5 (or E-4 who's for advancement) or above to apply for that rating. You submit a package through you chain of command and wait for it it be approved according the needs of the navy.

In the mean time, try to enter the navy with a technical rating (AT, ET, CTT, CTM, CTN, CTR, FC, IT) since they tend to be undermanned in these recent times, and after getting E-5, apply to be a LN. The more undermanned is the rating, the higher your chances in getting E-5 quicker. However, some of these ratings require a six year enlistment, and since you also had some credits you may be able to go to bootcamp as an E-2 (24-47 credits) or E-3 (48 or more credits).

Another thing to expect in the navy: If you're cute (you probably are), expect to be hit by guys (mostly sailors and marines) A LOT!!!!!

Believe me, there's all kinds of men in here; but don't just join the navy to land yourself a man. I've seen it happen and is not a good idea.

Personally, I'm more into the smarter guys; so I got myself a nuclear ET2. I'm an IT3.
