As difficult as it is to get into the military right now, If I wanted to get into the military, I would do whatever is needed to get in, everything else would be secondary.
Each service has their own basic training locations.
Are you talking about USMC boot camp? If so and you are going to MCRDPI then I would recommend starting in September if possible.
I went from the beginning of February - end of May (had to go to PCP for a few weeks). In the early months it was cold and rainy. I remember one particular day marching to the chow hall where the water was well over our ankles. At least a couple days we couldn't even go outside except to get chow.
It was also cold enough some mornings that I couldn't move my hand normally and had to push for messing up drill movements. When it finally warmed up, it was the summer and it was freaking hot! Hand to God, I could wring out my cammies some days.
To add insult to injury, we had to go to MCT after boot camp. MCT was in Jacksonville, NC and it was insanely hot out in the woods with your sleeves rolled down.
But mainly, it depends on you. If you really hate the cold don't go during winter and if you can't stand the heat don't go in summer.
I hate cold weather and I took basic at Ft Chaffee, Ark in Jan. and Feb. I would rather sweat.
